Catapult

I am so excited for the Fall preaching series as we will be focusing on Christian Stewardship. What is Stewardship? Stewardship is defined as "the free and joyous activity of the child of God and God's family, the church, in managing all of life and life's resources for God's purposes". (“What do you have that you have not been given?” I Cor. 10:31)

The emphasis here is that all aspects of life—time, abilities, and treasure—are gifts from God, and Christians, who have been “born again” into a relationship with this God who lovingly gives us all things, are now freed to use all things joyfully for the glory of God and for the good of others.

Why “Catapult?” Really, for two reasons. As you probably heard by now, I will be retiring sometime after February, 2026. Having had the joy to partner in ministry with you for over 20 years, it is my great hope and confident expectation that the ministry of St. Matthew thrives and grows mightily into the future as you partner with a new lead pastor. And intentional, joyful, generous, Spirit-led and Biblically guided Stewardship is the powerful “Catapult” into the future mission and ministry of St. Matthew! I pray that we can take huge steps in this together for the sake of the mission God has given us together here at St. Matthew!

But there is a second reason. It’s personal to me but I think it applies to each of us. It came to me as I was wrestling with what my future should look like in this “interesting” time of my life. As I contemplated the future, it struck me that the one thing that will “catapult” me into what I should do or be is to be renewed in living in the gift of Christian Stewardship. That is, what does it mean in my life to use everything God has given me in service to Him...for in this is the place of freedom and blessing in Jesus! This is also my prayer for you as well!
