The response for the Thanksgiving meal volunteers has been overwhelming. Your compassion and willingness to serve those in a time of need is amazing!
Based on our assessment of need (through local organizations on the front lines in Chico) and a couple of logistical factors, we have decided to change our plans. We will not be hosting a Thanksgiving meal at St. Matthew, but rather redirecting the impacted families in the area to Strikes Unlimited Bowling (just up the street) where they can enjoy free unlimited bowling, arcades and football while enjoying a meal.
Here are the two critical ways that you CAN make an impact for those in need:
1) DONATE ITEMS for CARE PACKAGES
St. Matthew is accepting donations to directly benefit those displaced by the Camp Fire. BRING YOUR DONATIONS to 5901 Lonetree Blvd Rocklin (the green church next to the park). We are looking for the following new (not used) items…
Gift Cards $25-30 increments for gas, restaurants and Walmart/Target
Hand sanitizer (pump and wipes)
Small gifts for kids (anything smaller than a shoebox)
Portable cell phone power bank / charging pack
Socks (all sizes)
DROP OFF ITEMS through Wednesday (11/21) during the following hours:
Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
*We will bring the care packages to Strikes Bowling to hand out at Thanksgiving. Any unused care packages will be delivered to churches in Chico to distribute.
2) MAKE FINANCIAL DONATIONS THROUGH THRIVENT
You can make a personal donation through their online giving platform offered in partnership with InFaith Community Foundation to the below organizations helping those affected. Thrivent will match your donation dollar for dollar - up to $250,000. This matching opportunity will run until the match is met or until January 31, 2019, whichever comes first.
The organizations below have been selected to receive matching dollars. To donate, simply click the name of the organization to which you wish to personally donate:
Again, we have been humbled and touched by the outpouring of love, concern, and willingness to give by this entire community. Thank you for being a reminder that there is so much good in this world!
